Usher Gallery is located Lincoln, Lincolnshire, UK

The Usher Gallery was created by James Ward Usher, the son of a jeweller and watch maker in Lincoln in 1837. 

James had a passion for collecting and over years his collection of watches, coins, enamels, jewellery and other items grew into a lifelong pursuit to develop an art gallery and museum for the city folk to enjoy.  

The gallery was built by Sir Reginald Blomfield and opened in 1927 and sits just in the defences of the ancient Roman city.  During its excavation for building significant Roman, Anglo Scandinavian and Medieval architecture has been discovered and is open for public viewing. 

A visit to the Usher Museum and gallery is great fun as it hosts so many exhibitions and shows that it’s hard to choose what to see first.  Covering a wide variety of contemporary and historic art exhibitions and events you can look forward to everything from a focus on fossils, arms and armour, Tennyson’s Poetry, Medieval Torture Instruments, Ancient Greek Ceramics, Collage and choose from a selection of free family movies every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:30pm throughout August 2012!
