  Barbados is an Island of white sand beaches and contrasting coasts. The Barbados West coast is generally the calmer coast with safe swimming and tranquil bays. The Barbados South coast typically has gentle waves, good for surfing, windsurfing and body surfing. The Barbados North and East coasts meet the Atlantic Ocean with big waves. Great for surfing but not recommended for swimming except for a few of the protected bays.
