  China has approximately 14,500 km (9,010 mi) of coastline on the East China Sea, Korea Bay, Yellow Sea, and South China Sea. Majority of the northern section is low lying, although some of the mountains and hills of Northeast China and the Shandong Peninsula extend to the coast. The southern half is a mix with Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, having rocky and steep coastline and then to the South of this area the coast becomes less rugged: Low mountains and hills extend more gradually to the coast, and small river deltas are common.
